Hola wonderful family and friends!

Today for P-Day we received permission to go to the Rosario Monument!  An adventure! I felt like I was in Washington, DC again!

We had a cool experience with our investigator Cristina Martinez and her husband Ramón this week.  Remember how I said that they made the goal to be sealed in the temple?  Well this week, of course she is completely willing to be baptized. In our lesson, we asked her how she thinks about all this.  She related to us this short story: The night before she took a shower…while bathing she was pondering about everything, and because she had a solitary, quiet moment, she felt a strong need to pray.  She did so.  In her prayer, she asked forgiveness of her sins.  One in particular which was her thinking she didn’t need the gospel, and only her less-active (now re-activated) husband needed it.  She asked forgiveness for being, “egotistical” in her words, for this type of thinking.  After she expressed these things to God, she felt a rush of relief come over her and a strong and very warm feeling enter her chest and fill her whole being.  She knew that it was her Heavenly Father answering her prayer and accepting her humble plea for forgiveness.  What an experience huh!?  We spoke with her how even Jesus Christ, he being perfect, was baptized by immersion; which is a sign to us, being sinners, of how much WE need baptism (2 Nephi 31-Book of Mormon). She totally understood this truth, and easily accepted the baptismal commitment and a date for October 11th.  Ramón finally came home from work right after we set the committment.  He was a little frazzled from the long day of work and spilled out some stories of the day.  Once he was calm, we expressed to him that we had a great talk with his wife, and that she has accepted baptism for October 11th. At this moment he was silent, removed his glasses, and began to cry.  He expressed how it’s been a long journey for him.  Going years alone in the church, then falling away because of lack of support and strength, falling into drinking and smoking, and now his wife, after years of missionaries and members, has finally chosen to accept the Gospel for herself as well.  All he could say really was, “Gracias Mamá”, looking into his wife’s eyes across the table.  He said something about his patriarchal blessing being fulfilled too.  Each of them both have expressed that their relationship has been incredibly better!  They both look so much more bright and happy and peaceful!  When we ask “How are you Cristina?” “De diez!” (of 10!…meaning, really really good! haha)  Whereas before it was “acá andamos” (meaning: “here we are going.”)
Wonderful progression for the Martinez family!  Let’s make it to baptism, the temple, and forever onward!
Antonella is doing well.  She told us how she wants to be baptized but is thinking of doing it after she gets married to Cristian.  Her parents are of other religions and wants to be “independent” or “out of the house” rather when she is baptized.  She’s 21, but resides in her parents home for now.  That would take a lot of time!  We want her to enjoy the blessings of living the Gospel now, but we’ll see.
Fernanda and husband put off the wedding for November!  They’ve procrastinated their plans.  But they are still, going.
José has been doing little jobs but still needs a real job.
So some good news, some not so good news.  We need to find new people to keep things going strong.
I know the Gospel is what saves our lives today and what will save the world in the end, and the true church of Jesus Christ is found within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And that Baptism within the true church of God is necessary for salvation.
Love you all!!!! It’s springtime here now!  Awesome weather! Enjoy every moment, show love, visit people!

Time and time again, I come to a realization that Dragonball-Z is not as extinct as I thought it was in the states.  It seems like the fad is just getting started here in Argentina!!!  So many youth and young adults are in love with the show.  We taught some less-actives that have been coming to church now this week, 2 young adult men…and their room is decked with Dragonball posters, the shows on DVD, and video-games.  Funny stuff!

A photo with the cute Ariza kids and their new pups!

This week went well!  Some things were a bummer but there were miracles as well.
Antonella is progressing slower than she could due to the insecurities of her boyfriend Cristian.  He’s causing some problems but we are working through them!  He’s got “controlling” issues.  He doesn’t want Antonella being a power-house member without him basically.
Miracle!!!….Cristina Martinez who would always say she was doing the “gospel things” in order to help her husband Ramón get better, but has now realized that she can’t live without the gospel!! She knows she needs to work out her own salvation too!!!  She said it frankly during gospel principles class.  EXACTLY what Elder Poulton and I wanted her to come to learn.  She and Ramón have been coming to church for 3 consecutive Sundays now.  They invited us over for lunch and told us during it that they as a couple have made the goal to be SEALED IN THE TEMPLE!  Is that a good goal??? one might ask. Uh…the BEST!!!!  We will help them to fulfill that goal!!!  Next lesson we plan to set a baptismal date!
A view of the Rosario-Victoria bridge again. Beautiful.
The other investigators are doing well, just trying to work out relational/marriage deals in order to get baptized.  There’s still more we can do as missionaries to help the people and things we can get better at!
Why not some fun stories eh?:  We had lunch with a very sweet and old member lady.  She’s almost deaf and close to the end, getting loopy.  One that speaks super loud during church because she can’t hear herself talk. :D  She answers a call of a friend during lunch and says to her “I’m eating lunch with two nice-looking boys.  One more nice then the other!  You should invite them over to lunch so you could eat with nice-looking boys too!”  Then she simply bursts out laughing! Elder Poulton and I joked for the rest of the day, giving the other the benefit of the doubt that HE was the “nicer-looking” one that granny referred too.  We washed her dishes and heard her tell stories…a fun visit.
Remember the woman I told about who popped over the wall and said, “That’s my wall don’t touch it!” Our lady neighbor. And we decided to help resolve any unresolved feelings about the situation with brownies and a visit. Yes, that woman!  We made brownies and while doing so, I joked that perhaps she might be diabetic and not be able to accept the brownies anyway and it would all just go wrong.  We spoke with her, and handed her the brownies.  She runs in the house with the brownies, runs back and hands the rest to us saying…”I’m diabetic but I took out four for my two sons.  Here have the rest.”  What!? We were BLOWN away!  But the visit was nice and the neighbor is content.
One cool thing is that Elder Poulton and I have great unity in our teaching.  I think of something that I feel should be said or asked and then he does exactly what I was going to express.  Perfect!  Of course we have moments when we disagree, but we come to a good conclusion because we both have the same goal in mind, and that’s to serve God and the people.
I love you all!  Hope all is well!

Hola queridos!

I’ll start off with some fun news.

Everybody says “che” as a nickname for everybody. As in “dude”.  From the dogs, chickens, to elderly people, people call other people “Che”.  It´s awesome.  Many times people will yell at there dogs, “CHE! Get down!” or say to a colleague, “Che, I know what you mean.”
Elder Summers and I. We had a conference where half of the mission showed up.  Elder Summers was my replacement for Empalme, my hometown! (My first area!)  I heard some VERY special news from him…Maria Garcia, my convert, is still active and doing well!!!!  ANNNNND, he baptized a young woman of 17 called Nadia that I met and taught at the very end of my time in Emplame!!!  I KNEW she was a stud! and she´s a strong, new convert stud now!  That news just filled me with so much joy.  I´m so lucky to have been a part of her finding.
We´ve found a woman and taught her the Plan of Salvation who looks very similar to Katy Perry.  We forgot her name for a couple days so we´d say, “Let´s go back to Katy Perry!”
I’ve gotten a little bellyyyyy, noooooo!!!!  Whatever abdominals might have been there are now GONE.  I blame it on all the bread and starch here and specifically the donuts (“bolitas de fry”) that people have been feeding us lately!  Luckily Ï’m not supposed to impress anyway right now anyway but I promise this thing is being shedded when I get back…only salads and oranges!
At church this last Sunday we had 4 of our investigators come!  The most I´ve had on the mission attend in the same day! Success!!
José Luis and fam are going strong…he´s been going to self-sufficiency classes provided by the church!  Showing true dedication and working hard to find work! Still just need paperwork to arrive to get a move on the marriage.  They went to church.
We live close to this super german/swiss pub called “Werlina” that never seems to be open, but we have fun passing by it everyday.
We found a new man this week!  Daniel!  He´s super humble.  About 40 years old.  Lives alone in a house owned by his employer.  Scraggly hair (picture Snape).  And a GREAT and SINCERE spirit.  With one little lesson, he accepted to come to church and he really came!  He liked it and said he felt comfortable!  He said, “Until next week!” Sounds like he will easily be coming again.  We passed by later Sunday and he commented, “I felt really good.  But I´ll liven up the people a little bit because they need to liven up!”  We laughed together at that!  He´s used to the big ‘ole band church and everything.
We had a ñioqui lunch with the Cuiñas family.
Antonella is a rock star.  She´s being held back by her member boyfriend though, Cristian.  He´s just got some hard feelings against his grandparents, who he lives with, who are really big in the church, and who have always dropped cane on him for being so “flojo”, lazy, with the gospel.
Cristina Martinez and Ramón came also!  Whoo!  This was crucial because if they hadn´t come, we might´ve dropped them.  But they are putting forth great effort!
So we had a good week.  Keep it up people!!!!
Fernanda Cheese Formaggio was simply out of town, but still doing well.
I KNOW that God knows and loves us!  All we got to do is let him “take the wheel” in our lives and especially during trials.  (Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus take the wheel”, look it up Mom I think you’ll like it!)  We can have the sure confidence, stand back and “watch the salvation of God”, as long as we´ve done our part which is to repent and always keep our focus on him!  I know that the greatest joy is found in living the gospel of Jesus Christ and feasting upon his words in the scriptures.  He is all loving and all knowing. We just need to follow.
Love you all!!  Strengthen your study of the gospel and your ability to share it easily with others will strengthen too!
